Did you know that every label of Art+Science products starts from an original piece of art? Kim Hamblin is a co-owner of Art+Science, but also a working artist. (it’s me, I’m her!) I work in what I refer to “cut paper assemblage.” Yes, I made it up (although I prefer invented!) I hand cut images out of paper with an exacto knife, then I paint them, layer them and typically cut them and paint them again. Every color is a new layer of paper. I then nail them to plywood backings with tiny nails.
My favorite themes are the sciences- botany, anatomy, biology and zoology. Often these themes interact to tell a story. Some of the art is political with subjects around ecology and destruction of our natural world. Some of the art has themes of hope and love. Much like life, it can be dark and light, messy and complicated, but beautiful.
If you are interested in my original work, it’s best to follow me on instagram @roshamboartfarm or email me at kim@artandsciencenw.com. I make magnets of our label designs too, you can order those right on my etsy page.
