Art?

What the heck is this ART in the Art+Science?

I (Kim) have been a working artist for about 25 years so, naturally, I torture myself and make an original piece of art for each new label. With over 35 products (I think, I’ve honestly lost count) under the Art+Science label and regular art shows, it keeps me pretty busy. For lack of any better description, I deem my process cut paper assemblage art.

Here’s a bit about the process: The images are hand cut with an exacto knife and each color on the original is a new layer of painted paper. The images are glued together and layered (it can be hard to see the raised texture on flat media) and usually painted again. The next step is to nail them down to painted plywood backings obsessively with tiny nails. The final step is to custom frame them with  strips of plywood painted black.

Here’s a couple of pics from a recent art show at Imogen Gallery:

I also sell magnets (and sometimes prints & cards) of the art on my etsy site
